Do not let the need for a heating repair catch you by surprise this winter. The weather can turn on a dime and when it does, it is important to be prepared with a fully functional HVAC unit.
Weather is unpredictable
There is nothing worse than a cold front moving in and the family not being able to get the heat to stay warm and comfortable. This year's weather has been entirely unpredictable, making a working heater more important than ever. Homeowners need to stay on top of ongoing maintenance and take the time to make sure everything within the home is functioning properly.
Fortunately, we are here to help. We can come out and inspect the heater to make sure that everything is running smoothly before that cold front begins.
Maintenance is important
There are a few maintenance steps that we need to complete on a regular basis. Homeowners who are busy or inexperienced working with an HVAC system, need to call us to complete these maintenance checks. Also, scheduling ongoing maintenance can sometimes prevent the need for a heater repair down the road.
These maintenance calls can include simple things like checking the filters, changing the filters, checking the thermostat to make sure it is functioning properly, and even cleaning out the air ducts to make sure that the air flowing through the house is not full of dust or mold. These maintenance checks and routine appointments are necessary on an annual basis. Thus, if it has been a while since you scheduled one, we highly recommend making that appointment as quickly as possible.
Make sure your heater is functioning properly
This fall and in advance of winter weather, turn the heater on to make sure that it is functioning properly. Set the thermostat at a higher temperature to test it out and make sure that it produces the level of heat necessary to keep the family comfortable. If it does not, give us a call. There can be a problem with the HVAC unit or the thermostat may need repairs. In any case, we can handle that repair quickly and easily.
Look for signs
Homeowners can also watch for signs of a heating repair being necessary beyond the unit not producing the correct temperature. These can include strange smells and noises coming out of the heater. In this case, there may be a need to get into the ductwork and see if something is happening inside.
Animals, for example, can sometimes make their home inside of an HVAC unit, and when they do, this can lead to additional problems.
Call at the first sign of a problem
We highly recommend being proactive and giving us a call at the first sign of an issue with the HVAC system. It is far too easy to ignore the signs of a problem and when this happens, many homeowners find themselves in a rapidly uncomfortable situation.
Fortunately, it is possible to prevent this by paying attention to what is happening with the heating unit and to schedule regular maintenance appointments. Anytime there is an issue, give us a call and we will be happy to come out and determine what should be done next for the heater repair.
